Accident Guide
Just had an accident? Follow these 5 simple steps to ensure you stay safe, record all the details of the accident, and get back to normal as soon as possible.
Safety first
Move off the road as soon as you can after turning off your car’s ignition and activating its hazard lights. If it is possible to do so, you can move your car off the road, too. However, only do this after ensuring it is safe to do so. A collision can be disorientating, and other vehicles using the road may still be travelling at speed.
Emergency services
If anyone is injured or if the road is blocked, contact emergency services on 000 straight away.
Please remember that Immediately after a collision, people may show little evidence of experiencing shock. Signs and symptoms may only develop gradually. If someone does develop shock, it is another reason to call 000.
Early signs of shock are pale face, fingernails and lips, cool, moist skin, faintness, dizziness, nausea and anxiety.
Exchange info
Collect the other driver’s details including registration and drivers licence number. By law, the other driver must provide these details. You should also ask for the other driver’s address, mobile number and insurance details – in particular, are they insured and with whom.
To make sure you capture everything you need for your accident to be managed as quickly and conveniently as possible, use our comprehensive Accident Detail Form. The link is below.
For peace of mind and identification purposes in the future, you may want to take a photo of the other driver’s licence and vehicle registration, too.

Collect Accident Information
Once you have the other driver’s details, take pictures of the accident scene & vehicle damage (to any and all vehicles). We would advise you to cover all angles on the vehicles involved, even if no damage is apparent. And don’t forget to check beneath your vehicle as well. If your vehicle’s drive-train is damaged in a crash, you should not attempt to drive the vehicle home.
If your car is undrivable, contact TAMMS. In most states we we can arrange towing from the accident scene or from a nominated location

We may be able to arrange your loan car and start your accident management process straight away. In most cases, if you were not at fault, a replacement car can be delivered to you within the hour. Don’t forget to remove any valuables from your car before it’s towed away.
